New Energy Price Cap
If your energy bills feel like they’re creeping higher each month, you’re not imagining it. Ofgem has recently raised the energy price cap again, and from 1 October 2025, the average household bill is expected to rise to £1,755 a year. That’s around £35 more annually, even if your energy use stays exactly the same.
But here’s something important to understand. The price cap only limits what suppliers can charge per unit of energy. It does not cap your total bill. So if your home is using more energy to stay warm, your bill will still be higher regardless of the price cap.
Insulation Makes the Biggest Difference
The number of units of energy your home uses is strongly linked to how well your property keeps the heat in. If your walls are poorly insulated, you could be throwing money away every time you turn on the heating.
Cold air from outside seeps in, and warm air quickly escapes through uninsulated walls. This means your boiler needs to work much harder to maintain a comfortable temperature. As a result, you use more gas or electricity than you should.
“Many people don’t realise that you can have a modern boiler, double-glazed windows and still be losing a fortune in heating costs if your walls aren’t properly insulated,” says Cavitech engineer. “The walls are often the biggest culprit.”
Millions of Homes Are Losing Out
According to the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, over 10 million UK homes are losing hundreds of pounds a year simply because they lack proper insulation. Even the most energy-conscious households are affected if their walls are not keeping the warmth inside.
Modern insulation can reduce this problem dramatically. In fact, up to 35% of a home’s heat can be lost through uninsulated walls. That’s heat you’ve already paid for.
